PURPOSE OF EXPEDITION:

M233SB:  Recover MOBY M230 and deploy MOBY M231.

Oahu-8:  Conduct an experiment to examine the relationship between solar zenith angle and the diffuse attenuation coefficient, and test the prototype of the new tethered buoy fiber-optics configuration.

EXPEDITION SUMMARY:

M233SB:  MOBY M230 and M231 were successfully recovered and deployed, respectively, on 20 Aug 05. MOBY sensor window antifoulant tubes and flopper stoppers were installed, and bio-optical measurements were collected concurrent with MOBY M231 data acquisition times on 21 Aug 05.

Oahu-8:  Multiple MicroPro profiles were conducted during the morning through local noon to study the possible relationship between solar zenith angle and the diffuse attenuation coefficient.  Bulk pigment water samples were collected concurrent with the MicroPro profiles, and these water samples were analyzed for pigment concentrations with both the fluorometric and HPLC methods.  Testing of the new tethered buoy fiber-optics configuration was successful.
