PURPOSE OF EXPEDITION:
Install controller on meteorological buoy, perform routine maintenance on Lanai CIMEL instrumentation, perform diver calibrations on MOBY, and clean MOBY collector windows.

EXPEDITION SUMMARY:
The upgraded controller for the Lanai Meteorological and Oceanographic Buoy (LMOB) - aka Meteorological Buoy - was successfully installed on 4 July. Contact by cellular telephone that evening verified that the system was fully operational. This LMOB deployment is identified as LMOB201. Science diver warding off white tip shark with a pole.

Routine maintenance of CIMEL instrumentation was also performed on 4 July.

Diver calibrations and cleaning of MOBY collector windows were performed on 5-6 July. During the diver calibrations, at least one, sometimes up to three, large white tip shark was present almost constantly. Shark behavior became increasingly aggressive, and at least one had to be warded off with a boat pole. If this type of shark behavior becomes the norm, procedural changes will have to be implemented to ensure the safety of the science divers.
